A gaggle of lounge lizards peer over ominously
You are the spectacle; once over for deformities
Reach inside until a handful of secrets destroys you
Or at least opens up a wound
Colicky men dispossessed from blood sport
wielding jutting leers
just desperate to unfurl
To controvert their state of waste
To feel something more, something worthwhile and whole

“isn’t it grand to watch the jockies fumble
Running in circles round the mud oval
HA!” He remarks as he watches them fall
I won’t be bothered by there being no future at all

I grow tired of the songbird who looms overhead
In the cherry tree outside my rented flat
Whispering sweet nothings of impending calamity
I am happy undying in the grips of wanting
Perceived control unabashedly removing its hands
from the wheel as if to let you in on the secret
Ignorant or indignant the effect is such the same
